Course Description:

Ever wanted to try and put your ideas and emotions into a painting or artwork but not quite sure how to get started?  Now is your chance to live as the expressionist did and get your wild ideas and emotions into action. 

By the end of this 6-week introductory course you can expect to have a broader understanding of contemporary art and how you can use it to express your ideas. You will grow in confidence with your art practice and learn some key concepts in understanding and appreciating contemporary art. This will be an exciting course with lots of opportunity to move way outside the box and get your MOJO into action. 

Maximum - 18 students

This will be an ongoing course and offered again as Session 2, Session 3, etc with class content being progressive and building upon previous sessions. 

Materials required for class:  

Pencils: 2B, 4B, 6B, 8B  
Brushes: Flat Brush - 1”, ½”, ¼” Round Brush #1,3,5,8
1 x round plastic palette with a lid  
1 x canvas 16 x 20
1 x canvas 18 x 24
1 x drawing pad 14 x 17 
1 x jar of gel medium (texture paste) 237ml
Acrylic Paints: Student Quality Only 
- Black, White, Cadmium Yellow, Phthalo Blue, Burnt Umber, Yellow Oxide, Vermillion, Primary Red, Raw Sienna, Green Light, Green Deep (you may bring additional colors but it is not a requirement to start the class)

Bring from home: 
2 x recycled plastic tub for washing brushes (e.g. large yogurt tub)
1 x rag cloth for clean up and paint prep (e.g. old hand towel)
1 x paint shirt or apron

Please feel free to bring a desktop easel if you have one...it is not a requirement but definitely welcome. 

*It is anticipated that students will spend time at home practicing their acquired art skills. 
*The Instructor will provide additional materials specific to the lesson plan. 

This class is also offered on Saturdays from 1:00pm – 2:30pm

Amanda Ambrus is a practicing visual artist, focusing on large painting and installation. Her work is driven by local research and public issues. 

As an emerging artist, Amanda is committed to exploring a diverse range of mediums and art practice. With a number of commissions in both Australia and the United States, she is dedicated to continually developing and exploring new research opportunities. Amanda is an Arts graduate of Curtin University in Western Australia and has been consistently involved in bringing art programs to the public for the past 15 years.
