Wellness & Holistic Therapy: Deep Tissue Massage
Deep Tissue Massage is a technique in which the deeper layers of muscle tissue are focused on in order to release chronic patterns of tension in the body. This is achieved through the use of slower strokes with direct finger pressure on the affected areas. This pressure is applied following the muscle fibers, tendons, and fascia. This technique is also useful in separating and eliminating scar tissue. Slight pain is not uncommon during or right after the massage. Deep tissue massage differs from most other relaxing massages because the aim of deep tissue massage is not necessarily to relax, but rather to reduce pain and stiffness in muscles that already display signs of sensitivity and pain. Complete relief usually comes a day or two after receiving the deep tissue massage treatment.
